This
program focuses on occupations within the insurance field; however,
other potential fields of practice include administrative assistant,
office assistant, administrative support clerk, human resources
clerk, personnel clerk, and staffing clerk. BC Work Futures is
predicting approximately 8,180 Finance and Insurance Clerk openings
and 8,800 Clerical Occupations openings by 2008, due mostly to
retirements within these large occupational groups.
Throughout this program, instructors will guide students through
modules covering everything from the Microsoft Office Suite to
the Fundamentals of Insurance to Office Procedures. Near the end
of the program, students will complete a practicum and learn vital
job search skills. This practical work experience has proven extremely
valuable to previous graduates, as they not only learn to apply
the skills and knowledge that they have learned in the classroom,
but also because practicum placements often lead to employment.
Upon completion of this program, students will display proficiency
in using the Microsoft Office suite, managing incoming and outgoing
mail, following office protocol, and designing an office filing
system.
