Stevenson opened the college 18 years ago with a 500 square
foot location. Today, the school boasts 11 registered career
oriented diploma programs with more on the way. “Our
success lies in the fact that we have always listened to local
business owners and adapted our programs accordingly. The
results speak for themselves. Our graduates find employment.
“
Stevenson
has always had a vision to expand into the international market
while maintaining Excel’s commitment to providing local
programs but knew that a partner was necessary to take on
the feat. “Sandra comes to us with international experience,
a background in post secondary education and management skills.
It is a perfect fit at the perfect time.” Lummiss first
came to the Valley in 1999 and was one of the original managers
of the Eagle 97.3 FM. From there she left the area to head
up the broadcasting department at a College in Vancouver.
Lummiss says she knew Stevenson’s offer was something
she couldn’t turn down. “To have ownership in
a quality career college like Excel is a true privilege, especially
with someone as professional and community minded as Pauline”,
Lummiss claims.
Stevenson
and Lummiss remain tight lipped about the changes that are
in store for the college in the year ahead. They say they
are excited about the growth that is in store for the college
and area businesses.
