Intro to Technology
This is an entry-level course to introduce students to computers, technology, the internet, and Microsoft Windows. Students will also be introduced to correct keyboarding techniques.
Microsoft Word Foundations
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the basic commands, functions, and capabilities of MS Word. It is designed for computer users who are new to word processing.
Microsoft Outlook
This is an entry-level course to introduce students to Microsoft Outlook, including email, calendar, and customizing functions.
Introduction to Studying Law
This course is the entry point to legal studies. It provides students with foundational knowledge on how legal disputes are resolved through the legal system of Canada.
Ethics and Professional Conduct
Students will examine in detail the rules and regulations on ethical conduct applicable to professionals working in legal environments assisting immigration consultants, lawyers, and paralegals. Students will gain an insight into the various codes of conduct related to the legal professions, and acts and legislation governing privacy and confidentiality at both the provincial and federal level. Obligation in the use, collection and disclosure of personal information related to clients will be thoroughly discussed.
Canadian Immigration & Citizenship Law
This course introduces students to Canadian immigration laws, rules, policies, and procedures that are developed and enforced through Canadian government agencies, courts, and tribunals. Students learn the history of Canadian immigration and citizenship law and its role in the international community.
Administrative Tribunals in Canadian Immigration
Students are introduced to the principles of administrative law in Canada and the various tribunals that administer them. Students will study the various administrative law concepts and will come to have a full understanding of the tribunal processes. IRB, being the busiest tribunal in Canada, will be explored and discussed in detail and focus on the procedural processes. Students will learn to prepare submission packages according to the requirements of the Divisions in IRB.
Legal Research & Writing
Students are provided with an overview of the skills required to perform legal research as an Immigration Assistant. Students will be introduced to various online resources in the research of case laws, finding the sources of laws, and legal terminology used in legal research. Students will also be introduced to properwriting concepts in addition to presentation techniques for which they will be required to complete a presentation assignment.
Canadian Immigration & Citizenship Law Processes
Students will be introduced to the various categories of Canada immigration and refugee claims processes. Students will also be introduced to the various aspect of Citizenship processes. In addition, students will learn about the humanitarian and compassionate grounds process, explore the various grounds of inadmissibility, and understand how to overcome inadmissibility that affects the immigration application process.
Canadian Immigration & Citizenship Law Application Processes
Students will be introduced to the various categories of Canadian immigration and citizenship applications. Students will learn the process of how to apply for each of the available immigration categories, including the IRB and CBSA. Students will gain confidence in knowing where to look for the available resources to complete a full application.
Procedures for Canadian Legal Offices
This course is designed to give an overview of the way a legal office operates, the types of documents used in legal practice, and the administration procedures for a legal office. Special emphasis is placed on the use of technology, software, and online applications used in law offices, and the general use of technology for timekeeping, file management, databases, client communication, inter office communication and efficiency. Students will also understand the ethical and practical guidelines issued by the College of Immigration Consultants (CICC).
Client Relationships
This course is designed to give an overview of the relationships between the client and the legal professional. It focuses on the importance of client satisfaction, client needs, client care, and client confidence. Students will also learn to develop client culture to improve client experiences.
Practicum
Students will work under the direct supervision of an industry mentor. To assist students as they prepare for the transition from post-secondary education to the world of work or, in the case of those re-training for a new career, to introduce students to their new area of employment.

Students are required to meet the following admission requirements:
Age or Education Requirement
Students must either:
● Be 19 years of age prior to the start of the program; or
● Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
English Proficiency Requirement
Students must also provide evidence of one of the following English proficiency requirements:
Secondary Education in English
Evidence that the student has successfully completed:
● 3 years of full-time secondary education between Grades 8 to 12; or
● 2 years of full-time secondary education, if completed in Grades 10, 11, or 12;
in the program’s language of instruction, in a country where that language is one of the principal languages.
Post-Secondary Education in English
Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction.
Approved English Language Proficiency Test
Verified results from one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no more than two years before the start date of the program.
● IELTS Academic – Minimum overall score of 5.5
● TOEFL iBT – Minimum overall score of 46
● CAEL – Minimum overall score of 40
● CELPIP – Listening 6, Speaking 6, Reading 5, and Writing 5
● Duolingo English Test – Minimum overall score of 95
● PTE Academic – Minimum overall score of 43
● Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First exam / FCE – Minimum overall score of 160 or “C”
● Cambridge Linguaskill – Minimum overall B2 level
● LANGUAGECERT Academic – Minimum overall B2 level
● Michigan English Test / MET – Minimum overall B2 level
● iTEP Academic – Minimum overall score of 3.5
● EIKEN – Minimum placement of Grade Pre-1
Mature Student Applicants
Mature student applicants may be considered under the following conditions:
● The applicant is 19 years of age or older at the start of the program;
● The applicant is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
The applicant cannot access their educational records or provide sufficient evidence of secondary or post-secondary education as outlined above.
In this case, the applicant must:
● Provide an attestation confirming they have completed at least three years of full-time instruction in English in a country where English is one of the principal languages; and
● Complete an Accuplacer English Assessment and achieve the following minimum scores: Reading – 235, Writing – 235, WritePlacer – 4
